HC Deb 29 January 2004 vol 417 cc476-7W
Mr. Wiggin

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much bovine TB compensation has been paid in Wales. [150330]

Mr. Touhig

Statutory responsibility to pay farmers compensation at market value for cattle slaughtered under TB control policies is made by the National Assembly for Wales. Compensation is paid to farmers in Wales at 100 per cent. of market value as specified by the Brucellosis and Tuberculosis (England and Wales) Compensation (Amendment) Order 1996.

Between 1999 and 2003 the Assembly paid £12,939,000 by way of compensation to Welsh farmers.
