[holding answer 11 December 2003]: The number of women held in custody in Prison Service Establishments in England and Wales, as at 14 January 2004 was 4,283.

Information relating to Scotland and Northern Ireland is a matter for Ministers in the Scottish Parliament and the Northern Ireland Office.
