HL Deb 26 February 2004 vol 658 cc71-2WA
Lord Berkeley

aksed Her Majesty's Government:

In which London parks, for which they are responsible for policing, the Metropolitan Police regularly patrol in cars or motorcyles along footpaths. [HL1309]

Baroness Scotland of Asthal

The Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis informs me that the Metropolitan Police service does not have specific responsibility for policing parks in London over and above the normal requirement to respond to calls for assistance. If called upon for assistance, or deployed to deter crime and arrest offenders in known hot spot areas, the Metropolitan Police service may patrol on foot or in motorised vehicles depending on the operational requirement.
