HC Deb 11 February 2004 vol 417 cc1449-50W
John Barrett

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport pursuant to his answer of 19 January 2004,Official Report, column 1006W, on Edinburgh airport, if he will place in the Library a list of addresses for the 33 households. [154168]

Mr. McNulty

The figure of 33 residential properties that would need to be taken if a new close parallel runway were to be built at Edinburgh airport comes from a map based appraisal analysis designed to enable comparison of options. This exercise was not designed to be a highly detailed or final assessment of specific options. Individual addresses were not therefore recorded as part of it.

The Air Transport White Paper called for the preparation of the airport masterplans. The masterplan for Edinburgh airport will be incorporated into the strategic planning framework for West Edinburgh and future local development plan revisions. This will enable a more definitive view to be taken of exactly which properties will be affected when future planning applications are made. This will in turn allow the owners of those properties which may be affected to seek redress under the terms of the non-statutory scheme for Edinburgh which BAA are currently considering.
