HC Deb 05 February 2004 vol 417 c1071W
Mr. Burstow

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on progress in smoking policy reviews in Government buildings. [150814]

Miss Melanie Johnson

We have not undertaken a formal review of smoking policies in all Government buildings. The Department has taken the lead from April 2003 in making our buildings smoke-free and we continue to encourage employers and managers of public places to introduce smoke-free policies.

Tim Loughton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimate he has made of(a) how many and (b) what proportion of children aged between 11 and 15 years smoke. [152557]

Miss Melanie Johnson

It is estimated that, in England in 2002, 10 per cent. of 11 to 15-year-olds smoked cigarettes regularly (at least one cigarette a week), around 324,000 young people aged 11 to 15.
