HC Deb 05 February 2004 vol 417 cc1042-3W
Dr. Julian Lewis

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what instructions have been given to Army commanding officers on identifying individuals who may no longer be regarded as necessary by their units. [152221]

Mr. Ingram

Generally the Army uses the Manning Control Point review process to identify soldiers who may not be required for a full Army career. No discharge action has been taken under this process since 2002 and no further reviews are currently planned. Commanding Officers have been told that individuals who have already given notice to terminate their engagement before 30 September 2004 may be allowed to leave without serving their full notice period, if they wish to do so and they can be spared by their unit.
