To ask the Secretary of State for Defence pursuant to his answer of 27 January 2004,Official Report, column 68W, on foreign ships, how many vessels considered for charter by his Department have been rejected in each of the last five years because they failed (a) to meet technical requirements and (b) to pass a risk assessment undertaken by a marine surveyor. Information on why vessels fail consideration of charter by the Ministry of Defence is not held centrally. This information could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
