HL Deb 15 December 2004 vol 667 c95WA
Lord Marlesford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they believe that the cleanliness of the streets and roads in the London area will be a factor in the decision on Britain's application to host the 2012 Olympic Games; and, if so, what steps they are taking to improve the present situation. [HL404]

Lord McIntosh of Haringey

In evaluating London's bid to stage the 2012 Olympic Games, the IOC will assess its strength across the 17 themes contained within London's candidature file (which was laid before the House on 19 November). As part of the bidding process London 2012 is working with the London boroughs and Transport for London to ensure we project a positive image of the city—and ensuring the everyday business of keeping London's streets clean is part of that.
