§ Ruth KellyThe following table gives actual and projected expectations of life at age 65 for men and women in the United Kingdom for the calendar years 1974, 2002, 2004 and 2034. 2002 is the latest year for which the data required to calculate actual expectations of life are available. Figures for 2004 and 2034 are calculated using projected mortality rates taken from the latest, 2002-based, population projections for the United Kingdom.
The expectation of life figures shown are based on the mortality rates experienced (or projected) by age and gender in the years stated and are the number of years people would be expected to live from age 65 if they experienced those mortality rates throughout their remaining lifetimes.
