To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received regarding the proposed privatisation of the Forensic Science Service; and if he will make a statement. [129627]

In his statement of 17 July 2003, my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary explained the reasons for the proposal that the Forensic Science Service should become a public private partnership. To date, representations about the future status of the organisation have been received from two trade unions, Prospect and PCS, from Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the TUC, and from 71 hon. Members.
