The PCA has no control over the time a complaint was made (though legislation dictates it should be within 12 months of the date of incident) or the length of the police investigation. 2 These are cases received by the PCA after the investigation has been completed by a police force where a review of the file is required. This includes "Dispensation" cases (those where the complaint is not followed through for any reason). 3 These are cases where the PCA has previously supervised an investigation and where a review of the file is now taking place. 4 These are cases where the PCA is supervising the investigation.
