HC Deb 23 October 2003 vol 411 c681W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had with Port of Tyne Authority concerning issues of environmental pollution connected to the dredging of the river. [133391]

Dr. Howells

Officials from the Transport team at the Government Office for the North East have held recent, without prejudice discussions with representatives from the Port of Tyne Authority about the port's application to DEFRA for a licence for the dredging and sea disposal of contaminated sediment from various locations on the River Tyne. This matter is, of course, the subject of on-going negotiations between the port and DEFRA.
