HC Deb 23 October 2003 vol 411 c688W
Mrs. Brooke

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what action he is taking to ensure that health objectives relating to breast feeding are supported within the school curriculum. [133607]

Mr. Stephen Twigg

[holding answer 22 October 2003]: The Department has no plans to specifically address breast feeding in the school curriculum. However, through Personal, Social and Health Education pupils learn about health and well-being, including making healthier, safer choices. They are taught to think about the alternatives and long and short term consequences when making decisions about personal health; and to seek professional advice confidently and find information about health. They also consider social and moral dilemmas, for example, how the choices they make affect others.
