HC Deb 27 November 2003 vol 415 c450W
Mr. Chope

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will initiate an inquiry into the reasons underlying the number of pensioners receiving their state pension by means of direct payment into a Post Office card account on 6 September. [141519]

Mr. Timms

No. The reasons for opting for a Post Office account are a matter for individual customers. The Department of Work and Pensions provides customers with all the information that they need to choose the type of account into which they want to have their pension or other benefit paid, including those with Post Office access. It is for the customer to take the final decision on which account is best for them in their own particular circumstances.
