HC Deb 20 November 2003 vol 413 cc1454-5W
Miss McIntosh

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects the provisions of the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003 relating to blood alcohol levels in pilots, flight crew and other personnel to be implemented; and what the reasons are for the delay. [140127]

Mr. McNulty

Part V of the Railways and Transport Safety Act will be commenced once the equipment to be used by the police to test suspected offenders has received formal approval for use at the new low aviation limit. This process is now approaching completion. On receipt of the necessary type approval certificates, a period of approximately one month will be required to modify existing police equipment and to train officers for its use in the aviation environment.
