To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many road accidents caused by drivers falling asleep while driving there were in each year since 1997. [138938]

The information requested is not available. Research has estimated that tiredness is a principle factor in around 10 per cent. of car driver accidents and about 15–20 per cent. of all accidents on motorways and other similar roads.
