HL Deb 17 November 2003 vol 654 c261WA
Lord Taylor of Warwick

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why, after the tax credit scheme was launched in April, more than 200,000 applicants are still waiting for their money. [HL4850]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Culture, Media and Sport (Lord McIntosh of Haringey)

As the Paymaster General said at the Treasury Committee hearing in the House of Commons on 2 July, there were 220,000 claims being worked on at the end of June, over 98 per cent of which have now either been resolved, or the Inland Revenue is awaiting further information from the claimants involved.

Currently there are around 20,000 claims being worked on by Inland Revenue, half of which have been received in the past four weeks.
