§ Ms BlearsInformation on the number of stops and searches under section 1 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and other legislation for the years 1991 to 1996, broken down by police force area, are given in Table 1 which has been placed in the Library. These figures include stops and searches of persons and vehicles. During this period there was no information collected giving the required breakdown on the ethnic group of persons stopped and searched.
Information on stops and searches of individuals from 1996–97 to 2001–02 is presented in Table 2 which has been placed in the Library, and includes a breakdown by the specific ethnic group groups requested.

§ Ms BlearsThe number of full time equivalent officers joining the police service in the 12 months to 31 March 2003 was 13,126. Of these, 679 (5.2 per cent.) were minority ethnic officers. There is no breakdown available for Black and Asian officers.
