HC Deb 11 November 2003 vol 413 cc171-2W
Mr. Clifton-Brown

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many people(a) paid income tax and (b) paid no income tax in each of the last 10 tax years. [136749]

Dawn Primarolo

I refer the hon. Gentleman to table 2.1 on the Inland Revenue website for the number of taxpayers in the UK http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/stats/income_tax/it_t01_1.htm and the Office For National Statistics website for the population estimates for the United Kingdom for the years 1991–2000, 2001 and 2002 respectively.

The number of people that paid no income tax can be derived by subtracting the number of taxpayers from the population estimates.
