The figures in the following table show Central Government and local authority expenditure for England only while the GDP figures used are for the UK. The figures exclude expenditure on Children's Social Services, the resources for which were recently transferred to DfES. For 2003–04 to 2005–06, the local authority expenditure element for each category has been estimated.
