HC Deb 10 November 2003 vol 413 c93W
Mr. Battle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much compensation has been paid by(a) the police, (b) the Prison Service and (c) his Department in each year since 1990. [132737]

Ms Blears

The information requested is set out in the following table. However the information is available only for the last five years because the cost of interrogating records beyond that would be disproportionate.

The Home Office does not collate and hold information regarding compensation paid by individual police authorities and forces.

Police

The Police do not hold detailed information centrally and each area is responsible for its own compensation reporting.
