HC Deb 05 November 2003 vol 412 cc647-8W
14. Julie Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he is taking to assist the retention of women in the work force in Wales. [135541]

Mr. Touhig

Widening employment opportunities for women has always been a key priority for the Government. As examples of recent legislation, all women are now entitled to 26 weeks' maternity leave, and employers must give serious consideration to parents' requests for flexible working arrangements. Financial support has also been made available to enhance the provision of child care facilities—in Wales this is the responsibility of the National Assembly.
