§ Mr. HuttonThere are no statutory procedures for requiring that a strategic health authority chair resigns his or her post. Resignation is a matter for the individual chair involved. Regulation 8(4) of the Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Regulation 1996 provides that:
"If the Secretary of State is of the opinion that:
(a) it is not in the interests of the health service in the area for which an Authority acts: or(b) it is not conducive to the good management of an authority, for a person whom he has appointed as the chairman or a member of that Authority to continue to hold that office, the Secretary of State may forthwith terminate his tenure of office.The Secretary of State has delegated his authority to terminate an appointment to the National Health Service Appointments Commission.
