HC Deb 15 May 2003 vol 405 c383W
Hugh Bayley

To ask the Minister of State for International Development what plans the G8 has to publish progress reports on the implementation of its G8 Africa Action Plan(a) after the Evian Summit and (b) in future years; and how it intends to maintain the commitment of G8 countries to the Africa Action Plan over the longer term. Hilary Benn

The G8 Africa Personal Representatives will be presenting a progress report to G8 heads at the Evian Summit. Additionally the UK, USA, Japan, France, Canada and Germany will be publishing reports detailing bilateral progress. These will be added to the APR report as appendices. The Evian Summit represents a milestone in the achievement of objectives set out in the G8 Africa Action Plan but it is not a final deadline. Progress will continue after Evian. G8 Heads will consider at Evian how to continue high level political engagement with African governments; and discussions are ongoing regarding the potential for focus on Africa under the UK Presidency in 2005.
