HC Deb 28 March 2003 vol 402 c423W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills if he will list the(a) conferences, (b) seminars, (c) workshops, (d) exhibitions and (e) press conferences which have been sponsored by his Department and which took place ,on non-departmental premises in the last 12 months, broken down by title, purpose, date and cost. [104281]

Mr. Stephen Twigg

The Department organises a large number of events for different target audiences and purposes each year, ranging from small scale workshops to introduce practitioners to new procedures or initiatives, to larger scale events to promote policy initiatives or present the bigger picture of the Department's activities to external partners and opinion formers.

Examples of these during the past year range from a series of small local events to disseminate good practice in meeting the needs of autistic children, to a consultation exercise on 14–19 education that involved 57 workshops for every secondary headteacher in England.

Records of all such events sponsored by the Department are not held centrally and the information could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
