§ Hilary BennVictim personal statements provide the victims of crime with a formal opportunity to say how they have been affected, and for this to be taken into account by the criminal justice agencies in dealing with the case. The primary purpose of the statement is not to inform sentencing decisions. The implementation and effectiveness of the scheme is being evaluated.
