§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Lord Whitty)A fire-protection industry representative estimated that by the mid-1990s around 7.5 million to 8 million hand-held, halon 1211 fire-extinguishers were in circulation in the UK. No more should have been manufactured since then. Allowing for their use or disposal since that time, there was a possibility that around 2.5 million were still located at domestic and commercial premises in the UK.
