To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many self assessment taxpayers have not submitted a tax return for financial year 2001–02; and if he will make a statement.[101760]

9,246,131 SA tax returns for 2001–02 were issued up to 31 October 2002 and 8,371,251 received back by the January deadline. I gave these figures in a written statement on 25 February 2003,Official Report, column 12WS. 874,880 returns therefore remained outstanding at that date.
