§ Miss McIntoshTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the viability of creating a third party insurance cover relating to British air transport. [100052]
§ Mr. JamiesonFollowing 11 September 2001, when commercial insurance cover was partially withdrawn, the Government provided temporary third-party war risk insurance cover for UK airlines and other air service providers. Such intervention is a form of state aid and the terms upon which the UK, and other EU member states, assisted their aviation industry during the crisis was strictly regulated by the European Commission. The Government discontinued their support for third party war risk insurance on 31 October 2002, and we see no case for further intervention.
