To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many British citizens are in prison in each Commonwealth country. [120608]

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office collates prisoner totals on a quarterly basis. For the quarter ending on 31 March 2003, we were aware of 411 British nationals detained in Commonwealth countries.

The table gives a breakdown of the number of prisoners detained in each Commonwealth country.
