§ Phil HopeThe provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 place restrictions on the disclosure of personal data. Publication of the remuneration of public officials for whom the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is responsible would, therefore, be affected by this Act. Paragraph 12 of Part 11 of the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information also exempts personal information about an individual from the commitment to provide information under the Code. Paragraph 8 exempts personnel records (which would include details of remuneration) of employees of public authorities.
