To ask the Secretary of State for Health what discussions he has had with the Home Secretary about the potential of identity cards to prevent those not ordinarily resident in the UK from receiving free NHS treatment. [118344]

My right hon. Friend the former Secretary of State for Health has had discussions with my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary on a range of issues relating to the potential uses of identity cards, including as a means of confirming eligibility for free national health service treatment. N o decisions have yet been made.
