HL Deb 12 June 2003 vol 649 cc63-4WA
Baroness Finlay of Llandaff

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What provisions there are in place to ensure that cancer registries pass on timely, accurate and complete information to the Office for National Statistics; and whether there are plans to make this a statutory requirement. [HL3005]

Baroness Andrews

Cancer registries supply data to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in accordance with the national core contract, notified to Directors of Cancer Registries in England in NHS Executive Letter number 7 in February 1996. and the supporting Cancer Registry Standards, published in September 2001. The mechanism for reporting to the Office for National Statistics is agreed between each regional cancer registry and ONS, and data are provided in a standard agreed format. There are no plans to make this a statutory requirement.
