HL Deb 08 July 2003 vol 651 c36WA
Baroness Sharp of Guildford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to implement the earned autonomy provisions in Sections 6 to 10 of the Education Act 2002. [HL3677]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Education and Skills (Baroness Ashton of Upholland)

The Government are considering how most appropriately to extend freedoms for schools beyond a limited focus on the two areas specified in the 2002 Act. In the mean time, all schools are free under the "power to innovate" to make proposals to set pay rates for their teaching staff. Pay rates for school support staff are already set at local level.
