To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many(a) home accident injuries and (b) home accident deaths there were in Northern Ireland in 2002. [119764]

(a) There were 10,119 people admitted to hospital in 2002 as a result of an accident in the home1. This figure does not include people treated at an accident and emergency department or at an out-patient department.

(b) In 2001 (the latest year for which data is available) 39 people in Northern Ireland died as a result of accidents in the home2.
