HC Deb 04 July 2003 vol 408 c548W
Chris Grayling

To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether the Government intend to include the need to safeguard and promote the rights and welfare of(a) mentally ill adults and (b) older people under Clause 72 of the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Bill. [122948]

Dr. Ladyman

The Bill makes provision for the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) to have special regard for the most vulnerable group in society, children, but singling them out for such particular attention does not mean that other vulnerable groups will not have their rights and welfare promoted by CSCI.

CSCI will have the responsibility to look at the provision of services for all people, including mentally ill adults and older people.
