§ Sue DoughtyTo ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many waste oil burners in England(a) use and (b) do not use pollution abatement equipment. [122759]
§ Mr. MorleyThe standards for small waste oil burners involve ensuring that the burners are designed to cater for waste oil and are maintained so that there is good combustion; that the content of the waste oil is within specified parameters; and that there is a chimney of a height sufficient to disperse and dilute the emissions. Given that these conditions are fulfilled, abatement equipment is not specified in the statutory guidance. The main other processes burning waste oil are in the minerals sector and power stations. We believe that the majority of the former achieve specified emission limits without the need for pollution abatement equipment. Power stations are fitted with abatement.
