HC Deb 30 January 2003 vol 398 c1038W
Mr. Maude

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which police forces in the United Kingdom rely on call-centres for handling telephone calls from the public; and if he will make a statement. [92686]

Mr. Denham

Detailed information is not available on this subject as differing systems are in place throughout the UK, using call-centres, switchboards and direct lines.

The recent National Policing Plan sets out the Government's commitment to improving the quality and efficiency of contact between the police and the public and call handling is an important aspect of this. We are working closely with the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and the Association of Police Authorities (APA) to improve standards.
