To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many new hospitals or hospital reprovision projects have been commenced since 1997; and what proportion of these have been financed through(a) PFI and (b) PPP schemes. [91594]

114 hospital schemes have been given the go ahead since 1997, of which 104, or 91 per cent., have been or are to be financed through private finance initiative or public private partnership, subject to approval of their full business case.
