HC Deb 14 January 2003 vol 397 c533W
Mr. Paterson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what targets have been set for the recruitment of GPs in England. [84496]

Mr. Hutton

[holding answer 2 December 2002]: The NHS Plan set a target of 2,000 extra general practitioners by 2004. Delivering the NHS Plan, published in April, set out the next stage in this expansion—15,000 more GPs and consultants working in the national health service by 2008.
