To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what Scotland's real GDP growth rate was from(a) 1972 to 1999 and (b) 1989 to 1999. [89392]

Data compiled by the Scottish Office up to 1999 and subsequently by the Scottish Executive indicates that Scotland's annual real GDP growth rate was 1.8 per cent. from 1972 to 1999 and 2.1 per cent. from 1989 to 1999.
