HL Deb 09 January 2003 vol 642 c227WA
Lord Hardy of Wath

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have been advised that a ban on deer hunting and coursing was compatible with the United Kingdom's obligations under the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development 1992, with specific reference to Principle 22 of that declaration; and, if so, by whom. [HL900]

Lord Whitty

The UK Government are committed to abiding by the principles set down in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development of 1992 and are satisfied that the provisions of the Hunting Bill are compatible with the declaration.
