To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what was the (a) volume and (b) value of processed food imported from developing countries into the UK in each of the last three years for which figures are available. [87265]

The table shows the UK imports of(i) lightly processed foods (goods that retain their raw recognisable form, such as meat, cheese and butter, powdered milk, flour, sugar etc.) and (ii) highly processed foods (goods such as confectionery, canned meats, jams, alcoholic drinks, ice cream etc.) from developing countries for the years 1999–2001.
