To ask the Secretary of State for Health what information he has received on the reasons of the resignation of the former Chief Executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. [97992]

In November 2002 Dr. Maureen Dalziel's appointment as Chief Executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority was terminated, following a vote of no confidence by the members of the authority. This was entirely a decision for the members of the authority. However the Chair, Ms Suzi Leather, has confirmed there was no question of any impropriety nor was Dr. Dalziel's departure connected with any incident at a licensed treatment centre.
