HL Deb 06 February 2003 vol 644 c42WA
Lord Laird

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether recruits to the civil service of the Republic of Ireland who work in Northern Ireland and elsewhere are required to take an oath of allegiance on appointment, and, if so, why; and whether this has been referred to the Irish Human Rights Commission. [HL988]

Lord Williams of Mostyn

This is a matter for the Government of the Republic of Ireland. I would advise the noble Lord to write directly to the Department of Foreign Affairs. I apologise for the delay in answering this Written Question.
