To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on plans to merge regiments in the Army. [144799]

There are currently no plans to merge Army regiments. The Defence White Paper, published last week, sets out the context for shaping the structure of the Armed Forces for many years ahead. Work is still to be done with regard to the details of individual systems and units within that overall structure, but at present no decisions have been taken.
