HC Deb 15 December 2003 vol 415 c760W
Dr. Murrison:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what proportion of (a) general practitioners and (b) general practices in England have been operating closed lists each month since January 1990. [141060]

Mr. Hutton:

The Department does not collect this information. However we know that closed lists are restricting the exercise of patient choice in some areas. The new general medical services contract addresses this problem by including arrangements for primary care trusts to offer support to those practices which face the possibility of needing to close their patient lists.
