§ Mr. MilibandThe Planning Duties under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 require local education authorities (LEAs) in England to develop accessibility strategies and schools to develop accessibility plans. LEAs must make their strategies available for inspection to interested parties at reasonable times. Schools must publish information about their accessibility plans in their governors' report to parents. LEAs strategies and school plans were required to be in place by 1 April 2003.
The Department for Education and Skills does not collect the information requested centrally. However, as part of their regular inspections of LEAs and schools, Ofsted will monitor the implementation of these Planning Duties. The National Assembly is responsible for the implementation of the Planning Duties in Wales.
