To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many staff in his Department, agencies and non-departmental public bodies receive paid leave to undertake union duties; how many days they are allocated; and what has been the cost to public funds in 2002. [106772]

The number of staff in my Department and Agencies who receive paid leave to undertake union duties (excluding health and safety duties) are as followsHowever, the majority are part-time representatives: 285. The amount of days allocated in 2002: 5307.5. The cost to public funds in 2002: £492,732.22
