To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many people under the age of 18 years were charged with buying, or attempting to buy, intoxicating liquor in a licensed premises under section 169C of the Licensing (Young Persons) Act 2000 in(a) 2001 and (b) 2002: and how many have been prosecuted successfully; [106896]

(2) how many people were charged with selling intoxicating liquor in a licensed premises to a person under the age of 18 years under the section 169A of the Licensing (Young Persons) Act 2000 in (a) 2001 and (b) 2002 and how many have been successfully prosecuted. [106897]

[holding answer 3 April 2003]: The available information, relating to persons proceeded against and those found guilty of these offences in England and Wales for the year 2001, is shown in the table. Statistics on the numbers of persons charged are not collected centrally.

Statistics for 2002 will be available in the autumn.
